Excited to have my piece "Coastal Landscape Right" juried into the Ogden Museum's Louisiana Contemporary. The piece is 36" x 48," acrylic on canvas, and was produced in 2017. 52nd Annual  National Juried Artists’ Exhibition: The Summer Show, July 8 – August 19.
Opens July 8, 2017, in conjunction with the 2nd Saturday Art Walk,  with a reception from 6:00 to 9 p.m. The award recipients will be announced at the reception at 7 pm on July 8. The exhibition ends on August 19 with a closing reception from 6-9 pm featuring conversations with the artists.
A variety of media will be represented in the 52nd Annual National Juried Artists Show.  Work was submitted in media from fabric to photography, oil and acrylic, watercolor, and sculptures including an intricately carved fan made of hand-pierced sterling silver.
This year’s juror is William Fagaly, the Curator Emeritus for the New Orleans Museum of Art and the museum’s former Francoise Billion Richardson Curator of African Art (retired), who stated that “from my conscientious and careful deliberations, the resulting show is a grouping of works I found most compelling, the most accomplished, the most original and the best crafted.  I hope the exhibition gives its viewers as much pleasure as it has me.”
During his 50-year tenure with NOMA, Fagaly organized more than 90 exhibitions, including: New Orleans Triennial (1967-2001), Treasures of Peter Carl Fabergé and other Master Jewelers from the Matilda Geddings Gray Foundation Collection (1972), He’s the Prettiest: A Tribute to Big Chief Allison “Tootie” Montana’s Fifty Years of Mardi Gras Indian Suiting (1997), Ancestors of Congo Square: African Art in the New Orleans Museum of Art (2011) and Pierre Joseph Landry: Patriot, Planter, Sculptor (2015).  

The Summer Show is open to artists nationwide who must submit works completed in the past two years. Work by artists from 15 states will be represented at this year’s show. A total of 170 artists entered 465 works with 34 selected. I put together a small exhibition of older work from my Striation series from 2014 - 2015. A lot of these I have pulled from my own private collection and include a number of favorites. Majority of the paintings are based off striation patterns that occur in bodies of water, along with a palette inspired from my travels in the south of France and along the Riviera. Certainly, one of the most enjoyable bodies of work that I have had a chance to produce. Plenty of excellent work still available for purchase.

I have been working on a series of quick studies for a client, that will used as a mailer/or cover of a card. It has been a fun and challenging project to produce so many pieces all at once. You certainly end up with favorites....

I often laugh at the whole "fear of the white canvas" connotation. For me it always provides a great deal of excitement when you get to begin new work. The hard part is where your work goes or what it looks like, 2 weeks or 2 months from now. Do you get that positive vibe and excitement when you walk into your studio or do you constantly what to hit the reboot button. I cherish the smell and look of drying gesso and the potential to make something new.

I put together a sampling of new works for a show entitled, Summer Works. The exhibit can be viewed during Downtown Lafayette's Summer Artwalks, which are held on the second Saturday of the month from 6-8 pm. or by appointment. Well what can I say, I have been pretty busy, here are some pics of New Paintings and Works on Paper from my show at the Lounge gallery in downtown Lafayette. I am looking forward to just making for the next couple of months. Nothing scheduled till April 2017.  Just me an hopefully and empty studio.
